Keep it simple.

There's one catchphrase I invoke when muddled or overwhelmed. It's "Protect the Head."

There’s one catchphrase I invoke when muddled or overwhelmed. It’s “Protect the Head.”

It's actually less work than these guys make it seem.
Dear fellow BVs,
I’m getting better, but it’s been a slow haul, recovering from a bronchitis that wouldn’t quit.
At my lowest point of being sick, I gave up…on everything. I stopped trying to keep up at work. I called my boss and told her I needed to shut down completely to heal. I left the BV Slack channel. I stopped making phone calls or talking to anyone but the people standing right in front of me.
It was a moment of protecting the head.
Channeling this national treasure (Mohammed Ali).
I do the same thing when it comes to the news. To stop the negative spiral that comes from clicking on headlines, I’ve learned to implement some defensive measures. My right jab is a news blackout. I follow up with a right straight punch of shutting down or strictly limiting social media.
What protecting the head is all about: intentionally streamlining actions to take care of your mental health and to get better.
Why is your mental health so important? Because mental health is a “get the oxygen mask on yourself first, then help others” kind of situation. We are only as strong together as our ability to take care of ourselves individually.
What are you doing to protect the head today?
Love, Meredith
